Adoption

Adoption, like all meaningful experiences, involves aspects that can be challenging to face or fully understand. While the primary purpose of adoption is undeniably positive—it gives families the chance to raise children who might otherwise lack a home and offers children love and stability—it also comes with its own set of painful realities. The beauty of adoption exists alongside its sorrow, and joy can coexist with grief. This complex balance is a defining feature of adoption, though it is often underappreciated by many professionals.

Cecily and Trisha are highly knowledgeable and extensively trained in adoption and attachment theory. Both have significant experience working at a treatment center specializing in Developmental Trauma, often compounded by the complexities of adoption. Over the years, they have become experts in understanding the unique challenges faced by these clients. While this aspect represents only one facet of the broader picture, it is undeniably a crucial element that cannot be overlooked in the therapeutic process.

We frequently hear from parents expressing concern: ‘What happens if I send my child away? Won’t it worsen the attachment wound?’ Let us be clear: we are not in the business of recommending separation. However, there are times when such a decision may be necessary for the safety and regulation of both the child and the parents. That being said, our foremost priority is to provide the support and resources needed to safely maintain the child at home, whenever possible, by introducing additional services and interventions.

Many parents share that their child seemed fine until they reached a certain age, often around 10 or 12, when things began to feel more difficult. This is common, as puberty can bring new challenges. However, that’s not always the case. For some families, the struggles have been present from the start, while others may have children who appear to be thriving on the outside but struggle significantly at home. No matter your unique experience, we understand that your situation is personal to your family. Rest assured, our experience and training in this field make us highly equipped to support you through it.

We are passionate about working with adopted children and their families. We truly understand the unique challenges you face and are committed to supporting you every step of the way.
